Tata Motors has recently announced the commencement of bookings for the Altroz iCNG variant. The booking amount is set at Rs. 21,000 and deliveries are expected to start in May 2023. The price of the car will be announced around the same time.
Tata Altroz iCNG variant comes with a new twin cylinder setup, which divides the size of a single CNG tank into two small tanks. This has been done to maximise the boot space of the hatchback. The total water capacity of the CNG tanks is 60 kg (30+30 kg). Additionally, the spare wheel is present under the car.
One of the major drawbacks of a CNG equipped car is the lack of boot space. However, Tata Motors has tried to address this issue by coming up with an innovative solution. The twin cylinder setup ensures that the car has enough boot space while providing the benefit of a CNG variant.

Tata Motors claims that the Altroz iCNG variant comes with a ‘Single Advanced ECU. This feature ensures a seamless and jerk-free experience while shifting from petrol to CNG mode or vice versa. Additionally, the car comes with ‘Direct start in CNG mode.
Tata Altroz iCNG variant is powered by a 1.2 litre, 3 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 86 bhp and 113 Nm of torque in petrol mode, while in CNG mode, it produces 77 bhp and 97 Nm of torque. The car will only come with a 5 speed manual gearbox and there will be no automatic transmission on offer.
Safety features have also been given due attention in the Altroz iCNG variant. It comes with thermal incident protection, gas leak detection feature, and a micro switch to ensure the car is switched off during refuelling.
Tata Altroz iCNG variant will be available in four variants – XE, XM+, XZ and XZ+. It will be available in four colours – Opera Blue, Downtown Red, Arcade Grey, and Avenue White. Tata Motors is offering a 3 year/1,00,000 km standard warranty.
