Mahindra Thar is one of the most popular SUV in India. Mahindra recently launched the Thar RWD (Read Wheel Drive) at an introductory price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The waiting period of the Thar RWD extends to one year due to its high demand in the market. Mahindra reported a 37% increase in sales in January and in total it sold 46,808 vehicles.
Now Mahindra has commenced the delivery of its new Thar RWD across the country. Thar RWD is available in two engine options – 1.5 litre diesel and 2.0 litre petrol. The 1.5 litre, 3 cylinder diesel engine generates a maximum power of 117 bhp and a peak torque of 300 Nm. And the 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder turbo petrol engine generates the maximum power of 150 bhp and a peak torque of 320 Nm.
Mahindra Thar RWD is only offered in Hard Top. It is available in total three variants – AX(O) Diesel MT, LX Diesel MT and LX Petrol AT. Here are the variant wise Mahindra Thar RWD prices –
- AX(O) RWD Diesel MT (Base Model) – Rs 9.99 lakh
- LX RWD – Diesel MT – Rs 10.99 lakh
- LX RWD – Petrol AT (Top Model) – Rs 13.49 lakh

Waiting period of Thar 4×4 is reduced due to the launch of Thar RWD. According to the dealers, customers transferred their Thar 4×4 booking to Thar RWD. Thar RWD Diesel has an insane waiting period of up to 74 weeks! Which means you might have to wait for more than a year to get the delivery of Thar RWD Diesel.
